Romanian Journalism– a Few Aspects

Fanel Teodorascu

Abstract

We can only discuss about Romanian press, according to some sources, since 1820. However, the growthof Romanian press was so fast that we cannot imagine such a rhythm nowadays. The battles in newspaper pages haveoften been noisy and long. Some journalists have fought against parliamentarianism and others against universalvote, since these gave illiterates the power to decide who can lead the country. Another fierce battle that took place inthe press was the one that discussed on which side Romania should fight in the First World War. Terrible battles alsotook place on the pages of newspapers regarding the issue of “affirmation of feminine personality”. The samehappened in the case of honour battle. Today, the headlines are different, but now, just as in the past decades,Romanian journalists cannot even agree on issues that are of national interest.
