Couvrir l’Union Européenne – un Travail de Représentation à Travers des Pratiques Journalistiques Convergentes et Divergentes

Mirela Lazăr

Abstract

This study takes its starting point from an empirical research conducted within the project Adequate Information Management in Europe (AIM)1. It is based on a sample of qualitative semi-structured in-depth interviews with eight editors and journalists working for Romanian newspapers and television stations, responsible of the "EU beat" in their newsrooms, and with nine Romanian correspondents in Brussels. The
analysis of the interviews, built on the constructionist paradigm, outlines journalists' experience with the coverage of the European Union issues, their professional self-understanding and their interactions with the EU institutions and fellow journalists within an environment of set standards and routines.
